A Networking Roadmap from Beginner to Professional
A clear sequence from cables and IP addressing to enterprise networking and automation.
Stage one: foundations
Begin with network models, media and devices, IPv4, IPv6 and subnetting. Practise explaining what happens to a packet from a user device to a server.
Stage two: operating networks
Move to VLANs, STP, static and dynamic routing, DHCP and NAT. Do not memorise commands alone: draw the network, predict behaviour, test it and troubleshoot it.
Stage three: specialization and automation
After operations, learn design, redundancy, policy, monitoring and security, then use Python and APIs to automate repetitive work. Maintain a portfolio of labs and problems you solved.
